Lyrics
Slipaway
by Brad Colerick
In her eyes, the wonders of the universe
She could hear me coming from a mile away
She was never very far away
Her face would shimmer like an eagle over water
She learned to run keeping up with her mother
She could fly away, like a sleek arrow
And I would watch her everyday
And she would see me, then slip away
I called her Slipaway
One day my father said you can take care of her
A horse is an honor, but a big responsibility
I grew up that day, in the blink of Slip’s eye
And I would care for her everyday
And she would see me slip away
Oh, Slipaway
And when we galloped
The earth would rumble like thunder
And legs of lighting would flash
And find their way home
And in the early light of morning, she’d hear me call
Her name — Slipaway
Oh, Slipaway
For many years, my cherished companion
Blazed trails through the Sandhills and the canyons
We would run away, to escape from it all
And I would ride her everyday
And she would know me, Slipaway
I called her Slipaway
And when we galloped
The earth would rumble like thunder
And legs of lighting would flash
And find their way home
Now the reins have gone loose
But the name I recall
Slipaway
Oh, Slipaway
I called her… Slipway
